So, why should we protect the environment anyway? There are several reasons. The most important is that if we keep cutting down the rainforests, poisoning the oceans, rivers and lakes, and getting rid of animals' homes is that humans will die out, too, when all this is gone. You've heard that rainforests are the "lungs of the planet." The Amazon rainforest alone produces about 20 percent of the Earth's oxygen. If we destroy all the rainforests, there won't be enough oxygen. If we pollute all the bodies of water, there won't be anything to drink. We need to stop destroying the Earth, because it's better for plants, animals, and people, too.
People that are native to the rainforest are able to live there without harming anything. If everyone did that, not just to rainforests, but the whole world, it would be a much better place, for animals, plants, and human beings.
